Showroom daily lifeStories from the Sample Room | Meet Ms. Xiao Ailian

Q: What is your role at WinkGal?
I am a sample maker.

Q: What do you like most about this job?
The process of making something from nothing. When a designer gives a drawing or a client shares a rough idea, I get to turn it into a real sample. Seeing it finally stand up – zipper smooth, pockets flat, collar straight – that satisfaction is everything.

Q: What is your workplace like?
Sunny, bright, and cozy – comfortable yet busy. I really like our sample room, even though it sometimes gets a little messy with piles of fabric and paper. To me, that mess is just a sign of creativity in progress.

Q: What is your favorite MBI item?
The Gold sequined bell sleeves maxi dress. Everyone loves it, and I was so happy to be part of developing it. Every time I see someone wear it, I feel proud.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Cooking – especially dough‑based food like steamed buns, dumplings, and hand‑pulled noodles. It’s like making samples: both require precision, a good sense of touch, and patience.

Q: Who are the women you admire most?
My mother. She was a village woman with little education, but she could carry any burden and taught me sewing. And Dr. Lin Qiaozhi – the obstetrician who delivered over 50,000 babies. She showed me that when a person takes their craft to the extreme, that itself is a great kindness to the world.
